Armistice Day Headbang

From http://banchoryheadbangers.blogspot.com/

This morning's report is coming to you via the wonders of wi-fi on the East Coast train down to Edinburgh this fine Saturday morning.

Barring Gary and Ian, we all made it along last night - although Andy missed the start of the action. As usual, we started with the Obituary section, of which there were 13 nominees, which we all voted on, producing clear favourites/most missed. Here's the votes, preceded by their ages at time of death:

  1. Bert Jansch (67)   83
  2. Amy Winehouse (27)   80
  3. Jerry Leiber (78)   73
  4. Sir Jimmy Savile (84)   66
  5. Carl Gardner (Coasters) (83)   50
  6. Nick Ashford (Ashford & Simpson) (70)   45
  7. Dan Peek (America) (60)   44
  8. Bob Brunning (Fleetwood Mac/Savoy Brown/Lonesome Whistle Blues Band) (68)   41
  9. Edmundo Ros (100)   38
  10. David "Honeyboy" Edwards (96)   35
  11. Benny Spellman (Fortune Teller) (79)   34
  12. Gene McDaniels (A hundred pounds of clay) (76)   27
  13. Buddy Gask (Showaddywaddy) (62)   24
Definitely quality at the top - but interesting to see how much affection is held for Sir Jimmy.

Next up was the Birthday Boys section, with 4 fairly well-known names celebrating this very day. Votes were cast as follows, with ages in brackets again:
  1. Chris Dreja (Yardbirds) (65)   25
  2. Vince Martell (Vanilla Fudge) (66)   20
  3. Mose Allison (84)   15
  4. Andy Partridge (XTC) (58)   10
The 3rd and last section in this particular blog posting is the 3 well-known artistes who are celebrating becoming Septuagenarians this year and who were overlooked from the last Headbang. The voting here was virtually unanimous and identical, with only Dave differing slightly from the clear order, which was:
  1. Booker T. Jones (Green Onions) 20
  2. Michael Chapman (Wellington the Skellington) 15
  3. Roy Harper (I hate the white man) 7
That's all for now, folks - more to follow in due course.
