Yes - they're falling like flies this week. First up was a name not all that well known, but Bobby Rogers co-wrote with Smokey Robinson and sang in all the Miracles' hits. Famously, their You've Really Got A Hold On Me was covered on the With the Beatles album, with John and Paul replicating the parts that Smokey and Bobby sang on the original - hear it here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2EsZpobWJs. They don't make them like that any more. Here's Bobby's obituary:
As already notified, the one and only Alvin Lee departed the planet on Wednesday. I didn't know until I read the following Obituary that the band name Ten Years After came about when they formed in 1966 - 10 years after Elvis' breakthrough with Heartbreak Hotel:
Then, just yesterday, one of the great triumvirate of British Trad Jazz, departed. The band became regulars on Brian Matthew's Saturday morning Easybeat programme that a few of us grew up with. He was definitely a cross-over artiste, as evidenced by as many as 14 entries in the Top 50:
Other news on the music front is that there's going to be a new stage musical next year, based on the Small Faces - http://www.allornothingthemusical.com/. Not sure how that's going to work out - hope they don't screw up the memories of a great band - but I guess I'll be sufficiently intrigued to want to go and see it anyway.
Lastly, a proposed date change for the next Headbang. The original idea (21st June) doesn't work for me any more, so, can I suggest Friday 14th June instead?
