Gary and I will be road-testing the equipment tonight to make sure everything goes smoothly at this Friday's (14th) Headbang, which looks like another almost full house of 9 of us, with only CK absent, on vacation. Dave won't be available remotely this time due to a prior commitment.
Usual timing - meet in the Douglas for a swift pint, if you can, from about 6:45. Jeb is coming straight from a golf outing to Gary's and won't need a curry, and Ian will go to Gary's straight from work, arriving about 10 pm. Need a volunteer to pick up enough curries for me, Andy, James, Gerry, Steve, Malcolm - and Gary? Will Stan, Stan, the taxi man be able to take 6 of us up to Gary's?
I would hope we could leave the pub by 7:30 am and get up to Gary's and get started with the music before 8 pm. The main event of the evening is Andy's suggested Rock Champions League Knock-Out competition, interspersed by a few other regular features:
- Obituary - there are 24 who have passed since the last Headbang, but we will only be separately featuring 3 of the most notable ones, so this should only take up the first 15-20 minutes.
- Rock Champions League Knock-Out - Qualifying Round - 1st Leg. 8 ties to be played. The "home" and "away" tracks will be selected by a roll of the dice (anyone got one?). Voting will be by a show of hands and the overall score will be recorded.
- Septuagenarians - there are 9 who have had their 70th birthday since the last Headbang, but, again, we will only separately feature tracks from 4 of the most notable ones.
- Rock Champions League Knock-Out - Qualifying Round - 2nd Leg.
- Best of the Best. These are 10 tracks that we have previously voted for as the best at previous Headbangs, so it will be interesting to see who turns out to be the Cream of the Crop. (No pun intended, nor suggestion made).
- Rock Champions League - Qtr. Final - 1st Leg.
- Rock Champions League - Qtr. Final - 2nd Leg.
- Rock Champions League - Semi-Final - 1st Leg.
- Rock Champions League - Semi-Final - 2nd Leg.
- Rock Champions League - Final.
That makes a total of 61 tracks with a playing time of just over 4 hours, so I would hope we could be on our way home from Gary's no later than 12:30 am.
