12th Virtual Headbang - 27th August, 2021

Aidan had family staying over so couldn't make it but otherwise it was all the regulars present and correct for the 12th Virtual Headbang. We didn't stay at 11 in number for long, however, as Andy couldn't access the tracks on Dropbox and signed off early on, prior to his early morning start back to Wolverhampton. Let's get straight in to the tracks played and the votes - first of all the 'GENARIANS:
John Deacon won the popular vote in the Septuagenarians section and Martha Reeves in the Octogenarians. The play-off between those two and the sole Nonogenarian, Ramblin' Jack Elliott was won convincingly by Martha Reeves. The other 'GENARIANS were then listed:
5 tracks from the OBITUARIES were then played and voted on:
A clear win for Charlie Watts, but a big surprise (for me at least) was zero votes for Don Everly. The other OBITS were:
Left over from the previous Headbang were 4 tracks from the early 70's BBC In Concert series:
Initially it was a 4-4 tie between Joni and Neil but my casting vote went to Neil Young before we moved on to the main event - the 6th playing of the HEADBANGERS' JUKEBOX, which produced the following results:
Bad Company, Stranglers, Jezabels and Beth Hart/Joe Bonamassa were the respective winners of each quarter final section. The Stranglers and Beth/Joe won their semi-finals and the latter went on to be the most favoured in that evening's JUKEBOX. The next section was another short one of 4 tracks from the BBC's late 70's Sight & Sound In Concert series:
XTC's frankly weird interpretation of the Dylan classic and the prog from Gentle Giant weren't very well received. The evening then closed with 6 great live performances from some of this century's Reading Festivals:
Voting was very close with Pulp and Muse both getting 2 votes so again I had to use a casting vote and I plumped for Pulp. This section seemed to be very well received, although Colin couldn't access any of the tracks. It was timed to coincide with this year's Reading/Leeds Festival - as was the HEADBANGERS' show on River Dee Radio, which included just 2 of these tracks among the 14 played on River Dee Radio and still available on Mixcloud at https://www.mixcloud.com/River_Dee_Radio/banchory-headbangers-reading-festival-60/
