Nominations for favourite clips from last Friday:
• Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill
• Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Heart
• Joanna Newsom - '81
• Rokia Traore - Zen
• Decemberists - The Rake's Song
• Free - My Brother Jake
• Faces - Stay with me (4)
• Neil Young - Rockin' in the free world (3)
• Tom Waits - Tom Traubert's Blues
• Damien Rice - Cannonball
• Jimi Hendrix - All along the watchtower
• Stereophonics - Don't let me down
• Nirvana - Where did you sleep last night?
• Small Faces - Tin Soldier
The Faces and Neil Young were the only ones with multiple nominations - although CK hasn't cast his yet - although we know his Bobness will be on his list for sure.
As regards connections (other than the obvious ones listed in previous postings), I've come up with the following:
- Laura Marling and Marcus Mumford are "an item"
- Chas Chandler of the Animals went on to manage Jimi Hendrix
- One of the favourites in the early Animals' set list was John Lee Hooker's "Boom, Boom"
- Richard Wright of Pink Floyd appeared as a hired hand on Dave Gilmour's solo version of "Time"
- Dean Fertita of QotSA plays with Dead Weather (thanks to Dave for this one - I missed it)
- As well as appearing at IoW in 1970, that was also the year that Jimi died, which leads me neatly on to the other accidental theme - death.
Apart from those in the Obituary section, the following artistes shown last Friday are now dead:
- Brian Jones (Stones)
- Lee Brilleaux (Dr Feelgood)
- Bon Scott (AC/DC)
- John Bonham (LZ)
- Alex Harvey
- Clifford T. Ward
- Billy Preston
- Miles Davis
- Hilton Valentine (Animals)
- Chas Chandler (Animals)
- John Lee Hooker
- Dusty Springfield
- Steve Marriott (Small Faces)
- Ronnie Lane (Small Faces & Faces)
- George Harrison (Fab 4)
- Keith Moon (Who)
- John Entwistle (Who)
- Paul Kossoff (Free)
I may have missed some - please feel free to add any others.
There was one more hidden theme - re-formed bands - I can think of three:
- Pixies
- Steve Miller Band
- SAHB (without Alex!)
That's it for now - next headbang scheduled for 11th March.
