Some more quiz answers

From http://banchoryheadbangers.blogspot.com/

Thanks to those who responded to the quizzes. I've already given the answers to the covers question, which I'd intended to refer only to the last section of favourites/requests, but, to be completist about it, if we are to include the obituaries and the other sections, then we could have added:

  1. Kinks covered Slim Harpo's "Got Love if You Want it"
  2. Don Partridge was seen covering Dire Straits's Sultans of Swing in the 90's
  3. Stereophonics did a great cover of the Beatles "Don't Let Me Down"
  4. John Lennon did Little Richard's "Slippin' & Slidin'"
  5. Muse covered the Anthony Newley and Lesley Bricusse song "Feeling Good", which was written for the 1964 musical "The Smell of the Greasepaint, the Roar of the Crowd". The best known version is by Nina Simone.
  6. Hendrix covered Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower"
  7. The Who's medley of old songs included Johnny Kidd's "Shakin' All Over", Willie Dixon's "Spoonful" - originally done by Howlin' Wolf, but also famously by Cream - and "Twist and Shout", performed originally by the Isley Brothers and later by the Beatles

Now here's my answers to the artistes who appeared in more than one guise:

  1. Dave Gilmour - appeared solo and in Pink Floyd
  2. Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton - appeared as a double act and as part of Blind Faith
  3. Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones appeared with the Small Faces and also the Faces
  4. Jack White played drums with the Dead Weather and guitar in the Raconteurs
  5. Likewise, guitarist Jack Larence was in both the above bands with Jack White
  6. Ray Davies sang solo and in the Kinks
  7. Billy Preston played solo with Jools and was seen playing organ on Let It Be with the Beatles
  8. John Lennon appeared solo and in the Beatles

Thanks to Dave and Andy (and James) for their votes for favourite clips of the evening - but haven't had Gary's or Colin's votes yet?

Dave, Andy and Gary have given me the dates when they're available for the next headbang and it looks likely that it will have to wait until March - Friday 11th or 18th look like the favourites - how does this sound for everyone?

"Connections" answers to follow.
