Yes - CK and I went along to the Forum last night to see and hear the son of the 7th son - the legend that was Muddy Waters. Mud and his band were appearing as part of the Aberdeen Jazz Festival.
His band were great - all white and they all dressed the part too:
All very retro - the preppy college kid look on harmonica, early Bill Black look on double bass etc.
CK and I thought the keyboard player was fantastic, even doing some Jerry Lee foot stomping on the keys later on. The guitarist was great too - just as well, as Mud himself didn't play any instruments - he just sat on his stool all night and growled his way through 2 hours on stage - but he's only 58:
He was a great showman and bandleader and he played up to the image of the old bluesmen and their misogynist, innuendo-filled ways. He even used the old stage trick of getting some girls up to dance on stage as he sang:
Sharp dresser, too - check out those shoes! Of course, he did some of his father's famous material, including I Just Wanna Make Love to You - watch it here - http://youtu.be/vgVHXsUzVQs
We never saw Muddy himself before he left us - he died 30 years ago in April, and he would have been 100 if he'd lived until next month - but this was the next best thing. Excellent.
