- Release of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
- Played the trailer for the latest release of the album
- Monterey Pop - the forerunner of modern festivals
- Our World - the first global satellite broadcast
- Beatles - All you need is love
- Radio 1 starts up
- Move - Flowers in the rain
Jimi Hendrix | Rock me baby
Byrds | Chimes of Freedom
Jefferson Airplane | Somebody to love
Mamas and Papas | California Dreaming
Scott McKenzie | San Francisco (wear some flowers in your hair)
Otis Redding | Satisfaction
Who | My Generation |
Five Headbangers thought Radio 1 was the most significant event. Steve thought it was Sgt Pepper, whilst I was swinging between Sgt Pepper and Monterey on the basis of their global impact, but we were clearly outnumbered.
The next theme was a reprise from the last Headbang when technical problems meant we couldn't pay our dues properly to Ray Davies, the then new KNIGHT OF THE REALM, so we rectified this by a quick run-through of You Really Got Me and Sunny Afternoon.
The clock was ticking, so there was just time for one more short feature, suggested by Andy, to commemorate a sad passing - ELVIS - 40 YEARS. It was like watching 3 different artistes:
Baby let's play house | 56
That's Alright Mama | 68 | |
Little Sister | 77 |
The first track was the young and vibrant Elvis, whilst the second came from his Las Vegas comeback - a sit-down acoustic session. The last video showed the full horror of his demise, filmed just a couple of months before he died.
That was about it - 68 tracks played with just 3 yellow cards, but no time to play the planned GLASTONBURY 2017 and NEW(ISH) ARTISTES themes - both will be carried forward to the next do. Just time then for the traditional team photo. Chuck was chosen as the background, and the (flash-less) results were interesting:
