11th Virtual Headbang - 16th July, 2021

Not quite a full attendance this time, mostly due to unfortunate circumstances beyond our control. Rob G had to attend to his mother who was having an operation and Andy was still down in Wolverhampton dealing with his Dad's passing. Malcolm was holding an online teaching session all week, which he hoped to be able to finish by 8pm, but it ran on a bit before he could join us midway through the evening. Dave, Steve and Jeb had been on a massive hill-walk in the Cairngorms but managed to, more or less, get back in time to join - and they didn't seem to fall asleep either! Anyway, here's the team photo of the 10:
'GENARIANS were first. Six tracks by recent Septuagenarians were played and then voted on:
Nils the clear winner here. A further 6 musicians had recently had their 70th birthdays and were noted, although no tracks played by them:
Four tracks by recent Octogenarians (excluding Dylan) were played and the votes were:
Charlie edged this one but failed in the 'Genarians "play-off" against Nils. A further 3 Octogenarians were noted:
Just two OBITUARIES tracks were played and voted on:
Other Obits were:
BOB DYLAN'S recent 80th birthday was a major feature of the evening. First of all, six tracks featuring the great man himself, with the weighted voting:
The next theme was the HEADBANGERS' JUKEBOX. This is the 5th time we had done this and with a neat 12 nominations we were able to repeat the Qtr Final/Semi Final/Final format we'd used before. The tracks and results were:
Qtr Final winners were Garbage, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Robert Finley and Christine & the Queens, with Garbage and Robert Finley making it to the final, which was won by the latter. Now it was DYLAN time again. 12 cover versions of his songs, played in two halves of six in a semi-final/final format (due to Zoom's polling restrictions). Tracks and voting were as follows:
Norah Jones won the first section with 3 votes and there was a tie in the second section with both KT Tunstall and Julie Driscoll getting 3 votes, so it was a 3-way play-off in the final - initially tied at 4-4 between Norah and KT, which gave me a chance to participate and I gave it to KT Tunstall. It was getting late so the short final theme was carried over until the next gathering.
