3rd combined in-person and virtual Headbang - 15th July, 2022

After a longish almost 4 month break, the Headbangers were back in action again last night. With Steve and Gerry on vacation, it was an even split between attendees at Dave's and those accessing remotely - 5 of each. Fairly prompt start at 7 pm, starting, as usual, with the 'GENARIANS. Firstly, the votes for the 4 tracks played by recent Septuagenarians:
Other Septuagenarians were:
Next the Octogenarians:
Other Octogenarians:
The "play-off" between the 2 winners of each half of the 'GENARIANS resulted in a narrow win for David Byrne over Alan Price. Now for the OBITUARIES:
Guitar Shorty never had a chance of a vote after we endured 17 minutes of Hey Joe, but Ronnie Hawkins was a clear winner. Others who had recently passed were:
Next, a new theme suggested by Dave - DESERT ISLAND DISCS. Nice idea, but virtually everyone who has appeared on the show has chosen a wide range of styles of music, much of it classical, for which live videos are not available. Nonetheless, I had a go at putting something together. We played short extracts of 4 of the tracks selected by this well-known politician and then listed the others:
Initial guesses as to who this was were well wide of the mark, but as soon as I mentioned "politician", Rob D sussed that it was none other than BoJo, who appeared on the show in 2005. Next, it was a quick look back at GLASTONBURY 2022:
My casting vote was for Jack White. The main event was the 10th time we have played the HEADBANGERS' JUKEBOX, which was split in to two halves of 6 tracks each, with us all having 2 votes in each section:
The shoot-out between Sam Fender and Heart was won overwhelmingly by the latter. Jeb was fairly convinced that we had seen the Heart track before - I don't think so, but if we have, then it would be the second time that we've had a winner with a track that, strictly speaking, shouldn't qualify for the JUKEBOX, as it has to, at least, be a new video, and ideally, a new act, never before seen at a Headbang. Note for future events. The 6th theme was one suggested by Rob G - SOMETHING ELSE - tracks from the Granada TV show of that name from the late 70's/early 80's:
The next theme was another short one - MACCA COVERS, in celebration of Paul's recent 80th birthday:
The more observant may have noticed that the votes were one short - this was the reason:
We tried in vain to waken Aidan, but he was well gone - he tells me he didn't come round until 1 am! Our taxi arrived early so we didn't have time to play the final theme, which will now be carried forward to the next Headbang, but we did have time for the usual team photo:
