Headbang - 7th October, 2022

Another fine evening although attendance was a little disrupted - Colin couldn't attend in person but managed to connect remotely from his daughter's home, although he had problems with the microphone so didn't quite manage the full session. Steve, too, was babysitting in Edinburgh and managed to join us for a while. Malcolm was smitten with Covid and wasn't able to join in-person or virtually. On the plus side, however, Aidan was in Banchory for the weekend and made it along to Dave's.

Usual beers first of all at the Douglas for me, Jeb, Andy, Gerry and Aidan, with Aidan volunteering to fetch the curry that I'd ordered (having received instructions from Colin). Gerry was our driver and we got to Dave's, more or less on time, a few minutes after 7 pm. Phil, Rob G and Rob D all connected via Zoom and soon we got the show on the road.

Usual start - 'GENARIANS. Firstly the recent 70th birthdays:

Two votes each. Other Septuagenarians were:

Then the OCTOGENARIAN tracks:

Others who had recently celebrated their 80th birthdays:

There was one NONOGENARIAN  - Johnny Thunder, who had a hit with Loop de Loop in 1963, but that was never a serious contender in the voting, which, as you can see above, was won clearly by Bobby Gentry.

Next - OBITUARIES. Voting here is for the "most missed" rather than the actual performance:

I suspect many voted with their eyes rather than their ears! It was certainly the most eclectic theme we'd ever played - straight pop, reggae, jazz and rap. Others who had recently passed were noted:

The 3rd theme was a leftover from the last session, when, as usual, we ran out of time - CRIME:

The main theme is the JUKEBOX, which was played and voted on in 2 sections:

The Stones won the first half with Del Amitri and King King tie-ing the second, so all three went in to the second round of voting, which Del Amitri won comfortably.

Next we played 5 tracks taken from the BBC 2 series that ran from 1978 to 1981 - ROCK GOES TO COLLEGE:

I was called upon to cast a rare vote after the initial result was a tie between Rory Gallagher and the Specials - I chose the latter.

We didn't have time to play the last theme which will now be carried forward to the next gathering. We did, however, have time for the usual team photo:

Apologies to the virtual Headbangers who were obliterated by those of us present at Dave's.
