The votes on the best themes at last Friday's do from the 9 who attended the whole evening, either in-person or virtual, were:
There were quite a lot of big names who turned 80 recently, allowing the Octogenarians to sneak it by one point from the Jukebox. Conversely, there were only a few well-knowns who passed recently and this was reflected in the Obituaries' relatively poor score.
As ever there was a wide divergence of opinions - the Septuagenarians, Body Parts and Octogenarians themes each had Headbangers' votes ranging from best to worst. The Obituaries' scoring was almost as divergent. Only the Jukebox had slightly more consistent votes.
We got through a total of 44 tracks on the evening, half of them medleys, and a total of 16 tracks (36%) were nominated in the Top 3 selections, with half of those medleys. The results were:
Three people voted Radiohead as their number one favourite, giving them 9 points and just pipping Steve Harley, with Roger Daltrey coming in a close 3rd.
Half of the tracks nominated were from the 1970's. None from the eighties or noughties. Five of the 16 tracks selected came from the Octogenarians theme - the rest were fairly evenly split between themes.
It was noted that there was a slight trend towards world music in the Jukebox on Friday - will this continue at the next Headbang?
