Headbang - 26/10/12

From http://banchoryheadbangers.blogspot.com/

We knew Gerry was away on holiday, but Steve also had to cancel this week, as did Malcolm when he suddenly realised on the day that he was double booked for the evening! Senility is coming far too easily - and rapidly - to the Headbangers!

CK organised the curries as usual and a few of us had a quick refresher in the Douglas before we headed off to Dave's. The evening went well - here's the themes and the votes (in descending order):

  • TODAY'S BIRTHDAYS
Thankfully, just 2 birthdays today - neither particularly favoured, so we rattled through brief tracks featuring Bootsy Collins (61) and David Was (60) and didn't bother voting on this section.

  • WOODY GUTHRIE CENTENNIAL

Gary went home early and didn't participate in voting on the last couple of themes, the first of which was:
  • WEATHER
This was a very close-run affair, with Bruce's live performance at Hyde Park this year just pipping one of our oft-seen and long time favourite Headbang clips:
1 Bruce Springsteen Thunder Road 56
2 Cream Sunshine of your love 54
3 Bryan Ferry A hard rain's a gonna fall 38
4 James Taylor Fire & rain 31

  • HIGHWAYS & BYWAYS
Another very close call - and perhaps a slight surprise that perennial Headbang favourites the Feelgoods were second best to Joe Walsh:

1 Joe Walsh Rocky Mountain Way 51
2 Dr. Feelgood Route 66 49
3 Rolling Stones Street Fighting Man 43
4 Eric Burdon Lonely Avenue 37
5 AC DC Highway to hell 37
6 Ralph McTell Streets of London 34
7 Ry Cooder Dark end of the street 24
8 Hollies Gasoline Alley Bred 21
9 Nashville Teens Tobacco road 20
10 America Ventura Highway 14
It was almost 1:15 am now and it was still snowing outside as we awaited our taxi - it duly arrived, but it wasn't big enough for all 5 of us, so Jeb (who had furthest to travel) plus Colin and I (who had early starts in the morning) jumped in, whilst Ian and Andy waited for another cab to come. First of all, however, the traditional team photo - with Gary missing obviously:

We now know what the most popular tracks in each section were, but what were the most popular themes? Watch this space to find out.
