Headbang votes (2)

From http://banchoryheadbangers.blogspot.com/

Section 2 was, as usual, those who had become Septuagenarians since the last Headbang, and there were 7 who fitted in to this category this time. Again, we had a very clear winner - and runaway last place too - Mark Wynter must be the first person to receive just the minimum 1 vote from each person present:

1 Andy Summers (Police) 63
2 Dave Clark 44
3 Michael Nesmith (Monkees) 43
4 Scott Walker 42
5 Norman Greenbaum 31
6 Johnny Rivers 20
7 Mark Wynter 9
Sticking to the old guys, we have now been formally voting for Most/Least Missed in the Obituaries section for 10 Headbangs, so I felt it was an appropriate time to do a Best of the Best of the Obituaries. There had been some very strange winners at previous Headbangs and voting this time afforded the opportunity for a certain amount of correction of prior misdeeds and this is how it worked out this time around:

1 Gerry Rafferty Stuck in the middle with you 11 March 2011 88.9% 79
2 Jon Lord Smoke on the water 26 October 2012 89.5% 75
3 Bert Jansch Black Waterside 11 November 2011 91.2% 68
4 Etta James I'd rather go blind 03 February 2012 91.1% 64
5 John Martyn May you never 13 February 2009 97.9% 49
6 Robin Gibb Massachusetts 22 June 2012 45.7% 47
7 Clarence Clemons Born to Run 24 June 2011 82.1% 40
8 Mick Green Shakin' all over 05 March 2010 52.5% 35
9 Lena Horne Stormy Weather 21 May 2010 75.0% 20
10 Les Paul World is waiting for the sunrise 13 November 2009 77.1% 18

The dates are when they were voted Best of the Obituaries for that Headbang and the percentages reflect the proportion of available votes they got on that evening. The final column shows the votes cast this time around.

John Martyn, who originally almost got a maximum 100%, only came in at number 5 this time around, perhaps demonstrating how fickle we can be. By comparison, Gerry Rafferty received 79 of a potential 90 votes this time around (87.8%).

Gary must have managed to complete his voting in this section in record time, because he seemed to have plenty of time for doodling on his voting sheet:

Perhaps he might explain the significance of this to us all?

Two Obituaries, which appeared in the Times on Saturday, but just missed the cut for this Headbang were Cleotha Staples of the Staples Singers and Damon Harris from the Temptations:

So they'll be first up next time around.

More voting news to follow.
