Lots of Music News

From http://banchoryheadbangers.blogspot.com/

Some big anniversaries around just now. Last Friday was the 50th anniversary of the release of Please Please Me. We celebrated 50 years since the actual recording of the album at the last Headbang, so no need to add any more on that topic.

It's also 40 years this month since the release of Dark Side of the Moon and there have been some articles in the press about this. Pink Floyd themselves are commemorating it by inviting their fans to join in a mass online event, starting at midnight last night, with photos, comments, memories etc and some have taken to re-designing the classic cover:

Here's the article that goes with it:

It was inevitable we would have some more Obits as well and there's a definite R 'n' B/soul/jazz theme just now. The latest was Bobbie Smith of the Detroit Spinners:

At least they were fairly well known, but the Times thought it worthy to feature a fairly prominent Obituary for Derek Watkins, who I'd never heard of:

Apparently, as well as the famous roll-call noted above, he played on all 23 James Bond films.

So, we now have 10 Obituaries so far, of which 3 are definitely "Jazzy", 4 could be described as "R 'n' B/Soul", leaving just 3 as genuine rockers. Fear not, dear friends, the next Headbang will not be apportioning equal time to the less favoured genres - news that will please a few who were already getting concerned about recent graveyard trends.
