Headbang - 18th December, 2015 - Final Results

The final votes are now in and the results of the Top Themes and Top 3 Tracks are:

Themes
1 Original v Cover 42
2 Black v White 38
3 Septuagenarians 34
4 Earth, Wind & Fire 21
5 Xmas No. 1's 20
6 Obituary 13
Eight Headbangers ranked the themes, scoring 6 for the best and 1 for the worst. The traditional Obituary section, which normally fares pretty well in the voting, suffered this time due to the lack of passing of any hugely significant artistes since the last Headbang and the quality of the material was, as a result, disappointing.

Xmas No. 1's was a short theme, primarily as a result of a request to play Bo Rhap on its 40th anniversary, and Earth, Wind & Fire suffered due to a lack of depth of choice of suitable material, other than for the Fire theme.

The other three themes all did pretty well and it was a fairly close-run thing as to which was the most popular.

That's now 118 different themes that have been featured over the last 10-12 years. This was the 21st consecutive appearance of the Obituary section, and the 14th for Septuagenarians.

Top 3 Tracks

1 Fleetwood Mac Need your love so bad 14
2 Nothing Compares to You Passenger 8
3 James Taylor Fire & Rain 5
4= Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Chile 3
4= 10 cc Rubber Bullets 3
4= Don McLean Vincent 3
4= Neil Young All along the watchtower 3
8= Jefferson Airplane White Rabbit 2
8= Kasabian Fire 2
8= Oh Well Haim 2
11= Allen Toussaint Medley 1
11= Muse Supermassive black hole 1
11= Humble Pie Black coffee in bed 1
A resounding win for Peter Green's wonderful version of Little Willie John's 1955 original, composed by his elder brother.

We've now settled on 25th March - Good Friday - for the first Headbang of 2016 and there have been a few votes for the themes I have already prepared, plus a couple of new suggestions. Time got a couple of mentions as did another Original v Cover theme, and Dave's suggestion of Notable Absentees seems popular too - although suggestions here will be subject to audit and if I find out they have featured before, they'll be excluded!

 Cheers
