Australia

Now that the dust has settled on our Australian trip, I thought it was time to update this blog with my musical tales when away - not that there are many. We didn't go to any concerts, although we did manage a trip to the theatre to see Dusty The Musical:

Not bad - fairly typical stage-y musical, but I didn't much care for the Dusty actress' voice.

We took a walk round Adelaide city centre and passed the town hall, whose balcony has a memento of the Beatles' appearance on that spot back in 1964:

There were two big concerts on when we were there - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, but that was the weekend we were down in Carrickalinga - and Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band, which was the following night - the same day as we had a long liquid lunch with the McDonalds, so we didn't see either of them.

The Laneway festival was on in nearby Port Adelaide the week before we left. It's a one day street festival with 3 stages. We went to a nearby spot and listened to part of it, but the music wasn't really to my taste - too old, I guess. The best known band appearing there was Tame Impalas - see the full line-up here - http://adelaide.lanewayfestival.com/line-up/

The other big musical event staged every year on Australia Day is the announcement on Triple-J radio (their Radio One) of the Hottest 100 tracks from 2016. Most of them I'd never heard - here's the full list - http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/archive/

When we were up in Queensland, we took a trip over the border to NSW to have a look at Byron Bay, a former hippie hang-out, now gentrified somewhat, but where they hold an annual Bluesfest in April each year, attended by major artistes - http://www.bluesfest.com.au/

That was about it.
